We are looking for an experienced physicist to be appointed to this band 8A clinical trials physicist post in Radiotherapy Physics in Oxford. The postholder will support Radiotherapy clinical trials in Oxford, taking the lead in the Physics aspects of setting up and registering trials, performing the quality assurance required and working with Oncology in the recruitment of patients to the trials. The postholder will work with the Radiotherapy Physics Group on all aspects of treatment planning and machine dosimetry, taking a lead role particularly in developing treatment techniques as related to clinical trials practice. This post operates on a rolling annual funding cycle and is offered with fixed term date of 31st of March 2022 in the first instance. However, with significant clinical trial activity in the department this a long standing position that has been in place under a rolling extension of contract for nearly 10 years.

The Oxford Cancer Centre at the Churchill Hospital is a six linac, all-Varian site with a GE CT scanner, Aria, Eclipse TPS and HDR brachytherapy unit under a PFI managed equipment service, plus a prostate seed brachytherapy service. We treat with a wide variety of techniques including SRS/SRT with ExacTrac imaging, SABR, breath-hold and TBI. Other systems including MIRADA auto-contouring and Dosimetry Check transmission dosimetry are in routine use. The linac and CT replacement programme is underway, with Halcyons, fully-featured TrueBeams along with a suite of treatment planning functionality including HyperArc, RapidPlan, MCO and Velocity. OUH is also building a two-linac satellite unit in Swindon, opening early 2022. Other developments in progress include breast IMRT, adaptive radiation therapy based on in-treatment imaging, implementation of a 3D printer, introduction of new treatment planning algorithms and development of MIRADA AI-based contouring in industry collaboration. We also have an active computing section working to develop software and scripts for analysis and automation. There are close links with the CRUK/MRC Oxford Institute for Radiation Oncology and Biology and an expanding portfolio of clinical trials.
