The Role:

We have long term placement opportunities available for Specialist Paediatric Speech Language Therapist (Community) - Band 6 available at Bury Community Services, specifically providing the following:

Bury Care Organisation is responsible for delivering a range of community and acute health services across Bury.

Our community services focus on a range of disciplines to support you to stay well in your own home. These include podiatry, audiology, speech and language therapy, and services to support children and young people, including school nursing and physiotherapy.

Main purpose of the job:

  • To assess, differentially diagnose and treat, where appropriate, a wide range of patients with speech and language and communication disorders. To work in Health Centres, Children’s Centres, Schools, and the patient’s home. This would involve working with a wide range of speech, language and communication delays and disorders relating to developmental delay, specific special needs, English as a second language or socio-economic problems.
  • To participate in other projects within the Speech and Language Therapy Department as required.
  • Work independently provide specialist assessment and intervention for children with speech, language, and communication delay/disorders, write advice and programmes for education and health staff to follow, contribute to EHCP assessments and reviews and provide training around communication best practice.

Skills:

  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist
  • Health Professions Council - License to Practice
  • Recognized Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Relevant experience post registration
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses

  • PARIS-Desirable
  • System One - Desirable

Responsibilities:

  • Relevant experience at undergraduate / post graduate level
  • To assess, differentially diagnose and treat, where appropriate, a wide range of patients with speech and language and communication disorders
  • To work in Health / Primary Care Centers, Children’s Centers, mainstream schools and nurseries, and the patient’s home
  • This would involve working with a wide range of communication disorders relating to developmental delay, specific special needs, English as a second language or socio-economic problems
  • To provide specialist assessment and intervention for children with speech, language, and communication delay/disorders
  • To demonstrate specialist knowledge in clinical specialism underpinned by current evidence-based practice
  • To manage caseload independently
  • To identify personal/professional development evidenced by PDP/professional portfolio including objectives relating to clinical specialism
  • To provide advice to non-specialists and other specialists/professionals within clinical field
  • To develop a working knowledge of relevant procedures including Safeguarding Children, SEN procedures, and other legal frameworks.
