Tyneside Integrated Musculoskeletal Services: Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist within Pain Management

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Psychologist to work within the Integrated Musculoskeletal Services across Newcastle and Gateshead, based at primary care and local hospital sites.

The service provides evidence based interventions for people with long-term or persistent musculoskeletal and neuropathic pain, and fibromyalgia based on a biopsychosocial model. The post holder will be part of a well-established and expanding multi-disciplinary team comprising Clinical Psychologists, a Consultant in Pain Medicine, Advanced Practitioner Physiotherapists and other Physiotherapist colleagues. We work using CBT, ACT and Mindfulness framework to help people develop a better quality of life.

Access to specialist psychology is an essential element of managing those with persistent pain, addressing barriers to self-management, such as low mood and trauma symptoms, working with people to bring about behaviour change, often in adverse social circumstances.

Duties will include psychological assessment, delivering psychological interventions (in groups and in individual programmes) to enhance well-being and functioning; contributing to the development of psychological care and support; contributing to the multi-disciplinary team assessment and treatment; promotion and development of psychological research and the participation in joint audit and research with other clinical staff in order to evaluate the service; the provision of psychological support and supervision where appropriate to clinicians working within the service.

This post will suit a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual with experience in Pain Management and/or Clinical Health Psychology. Supervision, guidance and support will be provided through the Lead Clinical Psychologist. There are also opportunities for service development and research as we have well established links with local universities.
