On 1st April 2020, North Manchester General Hospital became part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) under a new management agreement.

North Manchester General Hospital has a vibrant future ahead as it works with MFT to provide better care for patients and their families in the local community and across Greater Manchester. Plans to create an innovative health campus which will see a new hospital build and the development of a ‘wellbeing hub’ that will bring health and economic benefits to the wider community.

We are currently recruiting for a Head of Nursing at North Manchester General Hospital to support the Director of Nursing and Medical Director by leading and developing End of Life and Palliative Care Services within the Hospital in collaboration with teams across the Trust group.

Working closely with the Hospital Senior Nursing Team you will provide leadership support and advice on palliative and EoL Care ensuring that the Hospital governance activity meets the standards set by group and external regulation. Currently the service works collaboratively with the model of care delivered across Pennine Acute Trust, and you will be responsible for leading the safe transition of the service to MFT, ensuring that patients families and the clinical teams are fully supported to ensure a smooth transition.

We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic individual who has an expert knowledge and experience of Palliative and End of Life Care and can work within an acute hospital setting linking in with community services, someone who is passionate about delivering the best and safest patient care, who can provide leadership and strategic direction for all clinical departments across the Hospital particularly whilst undergoing complex change. You’ll be expected to utilise expert knowledge to ensure effective, robust working relationships with senior management and clinical colleagues both within MFT and external to the Trust.

You’ll be proactive and positive; have a proven track record of quality improvement, display excellent communication skills, be passionate about making a difference to both patients and staff and be able to evidence involvement in high impact change and delivery of key outcomes. As a key member of the senior leadership and management team, you’ll contribute to the future strategic direction of the Hospital and Trust and will ensure that service needs and patient experience are met to the high standards

Key Responsibilities:

  1. To be the Hospital Lead for the Palliative and EoL care team
  2. Work with colleges across the group to ensure there is equity in service deliver and deliver the strategic plan for EoL Care.
  3. To ensure, in conjunction with Medical Director and Director of Nursing ensure there is a robust system in place to measure patients experience of the service.
  4. Work with specialist colleagues across group to formulate networks within and outside the organisation to ensure peer support and clinical supervision.
  5. Lead as directed by the Director of Nursing on Trust wide Nursing priorities ensuring that the Hospital is a lead in the field of End of Life and Palliative Care
  6. Represent the Hospital as agreed at Trust Wide Governance & effectiveness meetings, CQC reviews and other related forum.
  7. Develop, deliver and assure systems are in place to deliver outstanding care for End of Life Care.
