Consultant Geriatrician

(Two posts)

The Department of Geriatric Medicine at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is looking to recruit two dynamic and motivated Consultant Geriatricians. We are an enthusiastic & supportive team which is passionate about delivering high quality care to our patients, excellent educational opportunities for trainees, and in working collaboratively with the wider healthcare system.

We are especially keen to build our team on the Acute Frailty Unit, Orthogeriatrics and Parkinson’s disease service, but would welcome other subspecialty interests that could enhance our service. We will work with successful candidates to incorporate these into their job plans alongside inpatient geriatric medicine.

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust consists of three acute teaching hospitals serving the population of Leicestershire, and is the main secondary care provider for its local population of 950,000. The Department of Geriatric Medicine provides a range of inpatient and outpatient services in hospital and community settings. The Department has established links with its local universities allowing opportunities for collaborative research.

Leicester is a vibrant multi-cultural city with a strong and successful sporting heritage, the surrounding counties of Leicestershire and Rutland provide an easily accessible rural idyll. This combines to provide a safe and attractive area to live and work but with good transport links to all other areas of the country.

As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced DBS will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.

The applicant should hold a CCT in Geriatric Medicine and General (Internal) Medicine, or be within 6 months of completion from the date of the interview. The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit. The Trust is fully committed to Continuing Medical Education for consultants.
