Applications are invited for whole-time or part-time Locum Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia to join our team of 9 Intensive Care Consultants at the Leicester General Hospital.

We are seeking a highly trained individual committed to Intensive Care Medicine. The successful applicant will support and contribute to the continued development of critical care services in UHL They will be required to undertake management duties, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit.

The work pattern offered is designed to give the appointee the best opportunity to develop their clinical and non-clinical interests whilst most effectively supporting the department. Previous holders of this post have progressed to substantive positions,

Leicester General Hospital is one of three hospitals in the Trust, and is the site of elective orthopaedics and hand surgery, general surgery, renal transplant, urology, Obstetrics and Nephrology & hepatobiliary services

The Government has awarded Leicester’s Hospitals £450m of capital investment over the next 5 years to complete our investment and reconfiguration plans. The £450m programme includes two ‘super’ intensive care units with 100 beds in total, almost double the current number with modernised of wards, operating theatres and imaging facilities.

The successful applicant will be joining University Hospital’s Leicester (UHL) at a time of major rebuild including extensive plans to transform the existing Adult Intensive Care Units into to a state of the art facility in order provide first class care to our patients. As a member of the consultant body, your knowledge and expertise will be instrumental in shaping the unit both in terms of its immediate service delivery, and in terms of its future design and utilisation.

As this post is regulated by the Protection of Children Act 1999, The Criminal Justice Courts Act 2000 and / or the Care Standards Act 2000 an enhanced police criminal records disclosure will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application.
