CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC INFECTIOUS DISEASE

Applications are invited for a 10 PA Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Disease post based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. Applications will also be considered from those wishing to work part time or on a job share basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to be appointed to a post integrating with the existing infectious disease service with an additional role of contributing as ID lead for pandemic preparedness in the Trust.

For 2020-21 there were approximately 500 admissions (day cases and inpatient) and approximately 700 outpatient appointments. Referrals to the department are received from North Central and North East London as well as Southern England.

The inpatient ward (Pelican Ward) is shared with rheumatology, dermatology, immunology and BMT and includes Hepa-filtered, air flow controlled cubicles with potential negative pressure isolation facilities . There are close working relationships between ID and the clinical Immunology, and BMT teams as well as medical microbiology, virology and infection prevention and control.

The Infectious Diseases Consultant team currently comprises of 3.6 WTE consultants. This will increase to 4.1 including this appointment. Our middle grade staff (1 senior fellow (ID only), 3-4SpRs and 1 SHO in general paediatrics, 1-2 national GRID trainees in Immunology/ID and 3 trust fellows) provide the direct inpatient care to the patients at GOSH under immunology, ID and BMT but also for the consult service across the trust. There are also 3 Clinical Nurse Specialists and a specialist ID pharmacist within the ID team.

This post involves Monday-Thursday on call (non-resident) for Infectious Diseases patients when attending, and currently involves a 1:5 weekend on call (non-resident) rota. Attendance at the hospital on weekends is expected when on call.

Applicants are expected to be MRCHP/MRCHPCH qualified, and have extensive experience in general paediatrics as well as evidence of experience in Immunology and Infectious Diseases.

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust is a postgraduate teaching hospital, linked with the Institute of Child Health (ICH). The Trust had 3000 beds and provides a comprehensive range of paediatric specialties for tertiary level care. The patient population consists nearly 300,000 patient visits (inpatient admissions or outpatient appointments) every year.
