Do you have experience in delivering children’s dietetics? Are you a team player who works with others to deliver a high quality service, embrace innovation and would like the opportunity of the variety that a community setting can offer? We are looking for two qualified dietitians who are passionate about supporting the delivery of a service which is effective, responsive and caring.

Due to staff promotion we have two vacancies in our children’s dietetic team and are looking to recruit 2 x band 6 children’s dietitians. This could be one full time and one 0.4wte part-time role, or two part-time roles.

The Children’s Team are part of the wider Leeds Community Dietetic team of approximately 35 staff based at Parkside Community Health Centre. The Children’s Team currently consists of 12 staff, which includes admin, three dietetic assistants and eight children’s dietitians. We pride ourselves in supporting each other in our different roles and areas of experience, and we meet regularly so that we can facilitate this.

What will you do?

You will work with children from 0 – 19 years and their families/carers. Children are referred from primary care and child health colleagues within acute and community organisations in Leeds. You will be managing a complex caseload of children who are enterally fed and are seen in clinics / schools or at home either via telephone, virtually or face to face (wearing appropriate PPE). Many of these children will be life-long enteral feeders, so you will be supporting the continuity of care that many require across a range of settings, including respite and foster care. Your caseload will also include children with a variety feeding difficulties and nutritional issues. This includes food intolerances such as Cow’s Milk Protein Intolerance (CMPI), as well as faltering growth and fussy eating. Families are seen in community clinics and joint clinics with paediatricians. At present, due to the covid-19 pandemic a lot of appointments are telephone or virtual however we are starting to see more patients face to face if needed clinically. We liaise with wider teams that can include social services, education, safeguarding and other healthcare professionals.


The dietetic team consisting of the Children’s team, Adult Home Enteral Feeding and General Adult Dietetic Team usually sit alongside each other at Parkside Health Centre, meaning there are opportunities to network with colleagues of other interests and levels of experience. During the covid-19 pandemic the team have predominately been working virtually from home however these avenues of learning are still available to all team members. All teams at Parkside are supported by a dedicated team of dietetic assistants and administrators to aid our efficiency and effectiveness.

The trust has excellent IT facilities to ensure fast, efficient and reliable access to System 1 patient records off site and at home. All staff are provided with a high spec laptop and smart phone.

You will be supported by a clinical leadership team through the appraisal process to help develop your skills further. We are committed to training student dietitians (A, B and C) to help the next generation of dietitians provide patient centred care. You must have excellent team working and communication skills and Degree level qualification and registration as a dietitian with HCPC are essential. LCH Nutrition & Dietetics Department is proud of its innovative and award winning ways of working and its support of clinical auditing and research. Working together with hospital dietetic colleagues, commissioners and paediatricians we have developed a city-wide formulary for cow’s milk protein intolerance. We are keen to consider any innovations / ways of working to improve patient care, and are looking at how we can utilise the learning during the covid-19 pandemic to this effect.

As for well-being, Leeds is a very active city with numerous parks and gyms and being close to the Yorkshire Dales, Leeds is an ideal place to balance city life near to the countryside.

About you

You must be HCPC registered and have some experience working in children post qualification. Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. In responding to service need, you may be required to work twilight sessions to deliver some programmes of work for periods during the year.
