What you need to know about this role:


The Employee Relations Specialist role will be to support the Employee Relations Business Partner to coach, support and guide managers through ER issues across the Charity. The role will advise on a best practice approach to resolve ER matters, whilst maintaining a pragmatic focus in line with the Charity’s values.


Some of the key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Provide support to managers on complex ER activities across the Charity ensuring cases are dealt with in an effective and timely manner
  • Work with managers to coach and support with regards to a broad range of ER issues to develop their skills and knowledge
  • Manage end to end ER case management across the Charity, attending stages of ER processes where appropriate, providing practical advice and guidance to managers regarding critical and complex decisions
  • Risk assess and manage ACAS Early Conciliation claims and prepare initial ET3 responses to Employment Tribunal Claims
  • Draft Settlement Agreements and coach line managers in having protected conversations and managing associated negotiations
  • Understand and monitor absence levels across the Charity, looking at both long and short term sick absence and work with managers to reduce absence levels
  • Foster and support a partnership relationship with the unions at the local level
  • To work collaboratively as part of a wider ER/HR team, to share knowledge and support development within the team
  • To assist the ER Business Partner in development and implementation of the Charity’s Human Resources Policies and Procedures
  • To manage change/restructuring/TUPE projects

This role will report into the Head of Employee Relations to support the delivery of the People Strategy providing a dynamic, customer focused and professional service to an operation that runs 24 hours, seven days a week.

You will have an enthusiastic, positive, collaborative approach and work well as part of a small local HR team linking in with clinical and non-clinical HR departments as required. The ability to build effective relationships with your customer base will be a priority as will your extensive employee relations knowledge.

Experience in delivering change and the ability to strongly manage stakeholder relationships and influence those around you are essential. You will have a proven track record as a HR practitioner and delivering ER projects in a complex and unionised environment. You will ideally be CIPD qualified or have experience at working at this level previously.

This is a great opportunity to work in a fast paced, varied role where no two days are the same. You’ll have the opportunity to liaise regularly with fellow ER professionals ensuring that you always operate within both St Andrew’s Policy and the UK Employment Law framework. Experience of working in a complex Head Officeand Unionised environment would be an advantage.
