CDDFT is one of the largest integrated care providers in England. Our 7,000 staff serve a population of around 650,000 people. We’re looking for a motivated and innovative Lead Nurse for Children’s Diabetes Team.   We provide care to around 300 children and young people with Diabetes throughout County Durham. The nursing team consists of five band 6 specialist nurse plus a Health Care assistant, we work as part of a wider MDT diabetes team with Consultants, dietitians, psychology and administrative staff. This post is full time, base is negotiable with a requirement to travel throughout the region.

You will provide specialist clinical advice, care and education to children, young people and their families. You will be required to provide education to ward staff on our two children’s wards as well as education to schools and colleges. You will be required to carry a caseload of families and provide clinical supervision to specialist nurses in the service. You will have a passion for safeguarding vulnerable children and be confident to be an advocate for your patients in safeguarding discussions.

You will be required to effectively manage and develop the diabetes service, working in partnership with the Diabetes Network and other agencies to ensure the provision of evidence based care and seamless pathways for children, young people and their families, You will provide professional and managerial leadership to the Diabetes Team in the delivery of high quality, safe and cost effective care.

Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:

  • youth cautions, reprimands and final warnings will no longer be subject to automatic disclosure
  • the multiple conviction rule has been removed, meaning that if an individual has more than one conviction, regardless of offence type or time passed, each conviction will be considered against the remaining rules individually, rather than being automatically disclosed.
