Created - in 2011 to take on the NHS community healthcare services previously provided as part of Kirklees Primary Care Trust. There was an ambition and determination to be flexible and innovative. Those services care for, and support people, from before birth to end of life, ranging from health visitors to physiotherapy, and sexual health to district nursing, as well as dental care, school nurses, and foot care.

Locala Community Dental Service provides comprehensive dental care for children and adults with additional needs in Calderdale and Kirklees, including the towns of Halifax, Dewsbury and Huddersfield.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to become the Specialist Paediatric Dentist for Locala’s Community Dental Service, who will be an inspiring and dedicated clinician to bring enthusiasm and innovation, supporting the service and its colleagues through the next journey.

The purpose of the role is to support the provision of high-quality clinical care to children with specialist oro-dental problems, additional needs or special needs including the provision of comprehensive dental care under sedation or general anaesthesia where appropriate. In addition, you will support the Clinical Director, Operational Manager and other members of the Senior Management Team.

Dental care may be provided in community, hospital or domiciliary settings, as a flexible approach will be required in responding to the clinical care needs of these patients and the post holder will take a clinical leadership role in developing paediatric dentistry within Locala Dental Care, including training and support to other members of the Locala dental team.

You will also support the lead for the Dental Services and will have the opportunity to shape and develop the service and team. Previous experience of managing a team is essential and supporting change would be desirable.

Previous Community Dental experience is not essential, however an understanding of patients’ needs with conditions such as Autism, Phobias and Learning Difficulties is essential.

The post is offered on a full-time basis, however suitably qualified applicants who are unable to work full-time will be considered, as will a locum position.

You will be registered with the GDC, have a relevant postgraduate qualification, require a Performer Number to work within NHS Primary Care Dentistry and hold a driving licence with access to a vehicle.
