Clinical Psychologist/Counselling Psychologist / Family Therapist/ Social Worker / Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist / Clinical Nurse Specialist

The Gender Identity Development Service for Children and Adolescents (GIDS) is looking for creative and thoughtful clinicians to join us in our work supporting young people who are exploring their gender identity.

We currently have vacancies in our Leeds base in Park Square, Leeds City Centre, which is a 5 minute walk from the train station. GIDS has two main centres in London and Leeds, with regional teams in Bristol and Birmingham and an outreach clinic in Exeter.

We are a cohesive, motivated and highly supportive multi-disciplinary team who enjoy working together on this key area for children and adolescents. The Leeds clinical team currently comprises of Clinical and Assistant Psychologists, Systemic Family Therapists, Social Workers and Clinical Nurse Specialists. We also have a dedicated research team which provides opportunities to engage with research within the service.

Due to the COVID pandemic, some work will continue to be carried out remotely in the first instance. You will have the opportunity to carry out specialist assessments and offer consultation and training to allied professionals. The role also involves participating in the joint and integrated adolescent endocrinology liaison clinics at Leeds General Infirmary, consultation with the young person’s network and travel to occasional outreach meetings with schools, CAMHS and/or social care staff.

We offer a detailed induction, ongoing support and training forums including regular supervision and CPD sessions, clinical case discussion groups and reflective practice.

GIDS is currently going through a period of transformation, which makes this an ideal time to join for someone who wants to contribute to service development and help to share our future as a world-leading specialist service. We are working hard to ensure there is excellent engagement with all staff across the service and our service users.

Candidates should have some experience in a relevant work setting, including experience with young people who present with a high level of complexity and require skilled and multi-layered assessments and intervention. Whilst some experience of working with children and adolescents presenting with gender dysphoria is desirable, the capacity to work sensitively and appropriately within a client and professional group, with diverse gender identity, sexuality, and of ethnically diverse backgrounds is essential.

If you are interested in our work and joining our team, we’d love to hear from you. We embrace and value diversity and would welcome applications from all backgrounds and diverse lived experiences.
