Consultant Cardiologist- Special interest in Imaging

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our team for the following post at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust:

University Hospitals of Leicester’s Cardiac Unit is a major UK provider at secondary, tertiary, and quaternary level and benefits from on-site cardiac surgery, ECMO, structural intervention, and Leicester’s National Institute for Health Research Biomedical Research Centre.

Cardiology provides specialised services for investigation and treatment of patients with cardiac conditions patients from Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Mansfield, Northamptonshire and the Southern half of Lincolnshire. The service also undertakes a mixture of locally and nationally commissioned specialist work and has an expanded referral base of up to 3 million for some services. There is an emphasis on acute secondary level provision for a catchment population of approximately 1 million, some referrals being direct and some from the Accident and Emergency Department.

Facilities include an angio-catheter suite (with 5 catheter labs), 19 bedded CCU, hybrid lab / theatre, cardiac admissions unit (part of cardiorespiratory clinical decisions unit (CDU)), day case unit and outpatients, pacemaker clinic, and non-invasive facilities where a full range of investigations are performed. This includes trans-oesophageal echocardiography, stress echo, CRT optimisation echo, exercise testing, ambulatory ECG, tilt testing, autonomic function testing, stress MRI, and nuclear studies. Recent capital expansion has increased the quality and scope of our imaging services, particularly in MRI/CT. We have just started FFR CT.

We have a strong reputation for clinical and research excellence within the cluster of cardiac imaging services at UHL, which includes echocardiography, cardiac MRI, nuclear cardiology, and cardiac CT. Some services are provided partly or wholly by our radiologist colleagues but echocardiography sits within cardiology services alone.

We have a large cardiac investigations department which provides the full range of cardiac physiological support services including echocardiography and a pacemaker clinic.

The imaging service is integrally linked with clinical cardiology as it provides crucial support for structural intervention, coronary revascularisation, pacing and complex devices, comprehensive electro-physiology including VT ablation, and a nationally renowned heart failure service. We carry out a range of structural interventions which require interventional echocardiography guidance including TAVI, left atrial appendage closure, transcatheter mitral intervention, balloon pericardial window procedures, and atrial septal procedures (when the services is nationally re-commissioned). Trans-oesophageal, 4D, dobutamine or exercise stress, and cardiac resynchronisation echo are all carried out to high standards which we wish to maintain and enhance.

Other associated cardiac services include coronary interventions, 24/7 primary PCI, and adult congenital heart disease.

This is a replacement post in the department of cardiology, which sits within the Renal, Respiratory and Cardiovascular Clinical Management Group (RRCV CMG).

The successful applicant will join us in our bid to provide a high quality cardiology services and will be expected to offer specialist skills in cardiac imaging, preferably including echocardiography.
