Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) provides a range of community health, mental health and learning disability services for people of all ages. Delivered through over 100 settings from inpatient wards to out in the community, our 6,500 staff serves over 1m people living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.


We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 8a Psychologist to join the team on a part-time basis to be involved in the development of a new service. The NHS has committed in the Long-Term Plan to improving care for children and young people (CYP) with complications related to severe obesity.

2.5 million Children in England are affected by excess weight or obesity, with 1.22 million significantly obese and eligible for treatment according to NICE guidance. According to the PHE definitions of obesity, there are 14,495 children with severely obesity in reception and 26,158 children in year 6.

The new service is a joint provision between University Hospitals of Leicester and Nottingham University Hospitals, developed with the aim of taking a holistic view of the management of complications relating to severe obesity within a supportive system including the young person, their parents and carers.

The post will sit within the Paediatric Psychology Team; a team of 16 who are continuing to grow. We are a specialist team, in a larger CAMHS provision within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. There are plenty of opportunities for training, and supervision is well provided for. We have a number of trainees from the DClinPsy course at University of Leicester, so there would be opportunities to supervise trainees, assistant psychologists and other medical and allied health professional colleagues. We are keen to support people in their continued professional development.

The post holder will be based within the Department of Paediatric Psychology but will be required to deliver services at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Nottingham Children's Hospital and other community venues. This is an exciting opportunity to join colleagues across the East Midlands region in providing specialist care to children and young people with complex health needs.
