An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Estates and Facilities Division at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust to develop an in-house Asbestos Management Team.

We are looking to appoint a Group Asbestos Manager to assist the Group Asbestos Lead and Site Estates and Facilities Teams in ensuring the management of Asbestos Containing Materials to the whole of the Trust, including off-site properties, is provided in an efficient and compliant fashion.

The post holder will report directly to the Group Asbestos Lead based within the Group Compliance Estates & Facilities, however will work closely with representatives from Hospital Sites Estates & Facilities Teams, including Directors of Estates and Facilities, Site Compliance Managers and Site Asbestos Managers, along with all other relevant managers and staff. The primary base for this post holder will be Oxford Road Campus.

The post holder will be responsible for providing expert professional advice and training on all matters relating to asbestos across the Trust; along with assisting the Group Asbestos Lead on the development and implementation of the Trust Asbestos Strategy, Group Asbestos Policy and Management Plan, Groupwide Asbestos Register and procurement of asbestos contractors.

The Group Asbestos Manager will in particular provide expert and professional guidance and support to Off-site Properties Compliance Team to ensure a robust framework for asbestos management is in place. In addition, a monitoring role will also be carried out with respect to Property and Estates Development Team to ensure processes and procedures are in place for the appropriate management of asbestos risks during development projects.

The post holder, with strategic direction from the Group Asbestos Lead, will be expected to liaise with the Trust’s Property and Estates Development colleagues to ensure investment in the management of asbestos across the Trust based on the priority of risk, and ensure that development schemes and lifecycle replacement of the estate and its infrastructure are carried out in a compliant and timely fashion in relation to any Asbestos Containing Materials.

The successful candidates will have significant experience of asbestos assessment and management within a multi-disciplinary complex organisation and thorough knowledge and understanding of compliance with the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations and the Control of Asbestos Regulations. Excellent communication and organisational skills are required, along with proven problem-solving and influencing skills.

The successful candidates will further be able to meet deadlines, work independently and as a member of a team, and demonstrate flexibility.
