An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Genomic Associate (GA) to join the Yorkshire Regional Genetics Service (YRGS). This is a new role which we expect to develop over time. The role is initially for one year but there is an opportunity of extension as a permanent post. The GA will facilitate the smooth running of the patient information collation service and provide additional clinical and administrative support as required for Clinical Genomics service provision within the YRGS. The GA will also assist to deliver Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) pathways within Clinical Genetics as this becomes a routine service for patients and families. The post holder will support appointments for WGS, including arranging blood samples, and liaising closely with clinicians and the laboratories to ensure smooth running of patient pathways. The GA will be supervised by Consultant Clinical Geneticists and Genetic Counsellors and supported by the patient pathway admin team.


We are seeking a caring, compassionate individual, with excellent communication and organisational skills and with a flexible approach to provide excellent patient care. It is essential that the post holder is able to manage his/her own workload on a day-to-day basis and prioritise their work to meet deadlines.


YRGS is one of 3 Clinical Genetics Services within the North East & Yorkshire Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (NEY GMSA), and provides Clinical Genetics services to a diverse population of 3.8 million across a large, varied geographical area. The service comprises an experienced team of Consultant Clinical Geneticists, Genetic Counsellors and Genetic Research Nurses/Practitioners, as well as junior doctors and trainee Genetic Counsellors, supported by a large clinical administrative team.


YRGS is based at Chapel Allerton Hospital in Leeds, with the Central Lab of the North East and Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory Hub situated at nearby St. James’s University Hospital. Genetics clinics are held throughout the Yorkshire region, and virtually.

The post-holder will be based at YRGS at Chapel Allerton Hospital in Leeds. A full UK driving licence is required, together with provision of a car.

The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £48 or Standard £30) from your salary over a 3 month period (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £13 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment. DBS checks for volunteers are free.
