We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 100 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We provide a range inpatient and community services to 2m people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England.

We deliver our services by working in partnership with eight local authorities and clinical commissioning groups, a wide range of voluntary organisations, as well as service users, their carers and the public. The services are spread over a wide geographical area of around 3,600 square miles, which includes coastal, rural and industrial areas.

This post offers exciting opportunities within a large Learning Disability Specialty. Working across two teams ; the Harrogate and District Adult Community Learning Disability Team and the York CLDT both part of the North Yorkshire and York Locality. (3 days in Harrogate and 2 days in York) The post holder can elect either location as their home base and travel to the other would be within work time. The learning disability service in each, consists of a large multidisciplinary community teams. The teams consists of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Community Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Health Care Assistants and Administrative staff.

Currently, the teams have a number of full and part time psychologists and psychology assistants. The service regularly provide trainee clinical psychologist placements.

The multi-disciplinary health teams offer specialist health services to adults with a learning disability their families and carers. The teams also work closely with statutory agencies and others who provide services to people with a learning disability. We also provide support to our clients accessing main stream inpatient services as required.

The post holder will hold a key role in providing psychologist input into the service. We are seeking to appoint an experienced Applied Clinical Psychologist. Applicants should be committed to working within Adult Learning Disabilities services, be able to demonstrate continued professional development and show strong patient-centered values.

The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, motivated, and demonstrate a commitment to delivering excellent mental health care and evidence based interventions.

The post holder will provide psychological assessments as well as a therapeutic, consultative and advisory services in relation to adults with learning disabilities, their families and carers, according to identified clinical need. Providing consultation, formulation and clinical supervision to other team members in regard to patients is an important element of the role in addition to direct clinical work.

The LD Psychology specialty within North Yorkshire and York and across TEWV meets regularly and there are wide ranging therapeutic interests within the specialty. Opportunities to develop special interests and co-work will be encouraged, as will opportunities to undertake service development activities.

Supervision, CPD and research interests are valued highly within the specialty and good links exist between the specialty and the Universities of York, Hull and Teesside.
