Therapy Support Worker in Paediatrics 23 hours per week

We have an opportunity for a permanent Therapy Support Worker to join our fantastic Paediatric Therapy Team of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. The Paediatric team provides services to paediatric intensive care and high dependency units, neo-natal unit, East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre, surgical and medical wards, orthopaedics, oncology, neurology, respiratory clinics and the maternity wards, providing optimum care and ensuring delivery of a safe, effective and efficient service.

The role is based in Leicester Children’s Hospital at Leicester Royal Infirmary. You will work alongside the established paediatric therapy team, which includes our Clinical Specialists Physiotherapists that work within exciting specialities such as Cystic Fibrosis, Long Term Ventilation, Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre and Outpatients. You will also work alongside our multidisciplinary teams and our colleagues within the Community Paediatric service.


Your role will support the Therapy team to provide treatment and rehabilitation to our patients as administrative tasks that are vital to s ensuring the smooth running of the team. You will be trained to be able to provide and take responsibility for managing your own caseload, carrying out assessments, treatments and interventions in conjunction with the registered therapy staff. Treatments are likely to include supporting patients to complete their regular therapy regimes, getting patients up and mobile following illness, injury or operation so they can return home, doing exercises with the patients, running group sessions, hydrotherapy sessions, and supporting patients with developmental delays to achieve both physical and cognitive milestones.


If you are interested you will need to be able to demonstrate excellent communication and time management skills, be able to work on your own and within a team. There are some admin tasks within this role so you will need to have IT skills. You must have some experience of working within the health or social care setting, and preferably with children or young people, as well as a genuine desire to work in this field.

Your hours will be worked between Monday to Friday with weekends and bank holidays on a roster basis.

You will receive regular supervision, appraisal and will benefit from a comprehensive induction and teaching package. We will expect you to complete the National Care Certificate if you have not already got this but this will be done within the work environment and you will receive plenty of support to do be able to do this. You will be able to develop your skills within this speciality and within the therapy field.
