UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS OF LEICESTER NHS TRUST

Consultant in Anaesthesia

Applications are invited for a whole-time Consultant in Anaesthesia.

The post will be based at the Leicester General Hospital which is the site of elective orthopaedics and hand surgery, general surgery, renal transplant, gynaecology, Gynae-oncology, major urology & hepatobiliary services. This post will have a significant commitment towards anaesthesia for Gynaecology and Urology and the high risk assessment and perioperative clinics; opportunities are also available to work flexibly taking into account the individuals experience within the UHL hospitals at which scope of surgical practice offers exciting and varied clinical opportunities for consultant anaesthetists. There is also continued support for non-clinical professional activities both inside and outside the trust.

The successful candidate will support the current establishment of 139 Consultants contributing to the on-call rotas, and provide senior anaesthetic cover for elective and emergency surgery.

This is particularly exciting time for Leicester’s Hospitals. We have been given £450m by the Government to provide a host of new facilities and reconfigure services between our three main sites. Flagship projects include a new Children’s Hospital, a new combined Maternity Hospital on the Leicester Royal Infirmary site, a new Treatment Centre and two new Intensive Care Units. Equally importantly, we are going “paperless”, with a £12m investment in our NerveCentre computer system to help our team deliver world class care.

As one of the very largest NHS Trusts in the country, our contribution to our communities goes way beyond direct health; we are the largest employer in our region, we educate and train the staff of the future, we push research boundaries and with our £1bn turnover we are an economic engine for the wider East Midlands and beyond.

If you are ambitious about what you do and strive to improve patient experience, bring your dedication and determination here and you will benefit from the support of an experienced and enthusiastic multi-professional team committed to the delivery of brilliant patient care.
