Band 4 Physiotherapy Technical Instructor in Pediatric Obesity Management 22.5 hours/week

We are excited to be supporting the creation of a brand new Tier 3 Obesity Management Service for Children and Young People of Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and Nottinghamshire. We are looking to appoint a Band 4 Physiotherapy Technical Instructor in Paediatric Obesity Management to provide this service across both geographical areas, working alongside the Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist and an experienced Multidisciplinary Team.

Your role will be to provide physiotherapy interventions to the patients referred to the Obesity Management Service for Children and Young People, supporting patients with weight management and associated comorbidities through physiotherapy interventions. As an exciting opportunity to develop a service from scratch, your role in supporting the Clinical Specialist physiotherapist to develop, deliver and evaluate the service will be vital.

As the physiotherapy technical instructor in the Obesity Management Service team, you will join the Paediatric Therapy Team at UHL. The Paediatric Team provide a service to the Childrens and Womens Services and provide care within the following areas: paediatric intensive care, high dependency unit, neo-natal unit, surgical and medical wards, orthopaedics, oncology, neurology, respiratory clinics and the maternity wards, as well as outpatient services, Regional Long Covid Hub and attending clinics for the specialities mentioned above to provide optimum patient care and the effective, efficient working of the paediatric team ensuring on going service development.

The post covers both Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire areas, so you will also have strong links with the paediatric therapy team at Nottingham Hospitals.

The Nottingham Children's Hospital (NCH) is based at the Queens Medical Centre campus and is part of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH). We provide In-patient and out-patient care for children up to the age of 19 years old. With 97 beds, we care for around 40,000 children each year from Nottinghamshire and beyond, treating a full range of conditions, including planned and emergency treatment and surgery, Burns and Plastics, Neurological conditions, Oncology, Paediatric critical care, Renal conditions and transplantation, and Spinal and Orthopaedic care.

The Childrens Therapy team at NCH is a friendly and supportive department who work closely alongside the wider MDT, providing excellent evidence based care and innovative ways of working.

In addition to this, you will also work closely with our colleagues in the community paediatric services and schools across Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and Nottingham to ensure best care for patients of the CREW clinic. With covering such a large area, the ability to travel is essential.

We are seeking a motivated physiotherapy technical instructor with experience providing excellent patient care and a passion for working with children. You will have knowledge of physiotherapy interventions and be able to provide assessments and treatments independently. You will support our vision to provide an age-appropriate service for children and young people with a focus on outstanding, compassionate clinical care.

Serving the population of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, Leicester Childrens Hospital is one of the busiest acute and general paediatric centres in the United Kingdom. Our Children’s Assessment Unit currently sees around 14,000 children a year in addition to the children who attend our Paediatric Emergency Department. The majority of our wards have recently undergone a full or partial refurbishment and we have benefitted from the construction of a brand new Paediatric Theatre Reception, Paediatric Recovery area, Paediatric Emergency Department and a Paediatric Observation Ward. Plans for an integrated, single site Childrens Hospital accommodating all Children’s services on the Leicester Royal Infirmary site continue at pace, with East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre due to relocate to Leicester Royal Infirmary in August 2021.

As a large, acute NHS Trust with established links to the University of Leicester and De Montfort University there is a strong focus on teaching and development of our staff, including qualified, non-qualified and multi-disciplinary staff and the successful applicant will provide any relevant teaching for physiotherapists, physiotherapy students and members of the Multidisciplinary Team working within the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

The Physiotherapy Department provides a seven day rostered service and the successful candidate will work on the relevant weekend and bank holiday service
