An opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced cardiac physiologist specialised in Echo to join our expanding team. This is a fixed-term post for maternity leave cover providing a chance to explore our exciting department with its various physiologist-led clinics and excellent education/training programme. The contract would be reviewed at the end of the fixed-term with a view to making it permanent dependent on departmental staffing and financial position.

St. George’s Hospital is a tertiary referral centre providing one of the largest specialised cardiology services in London. The cardiac physiology service at St George’s performs over 50,000 cardiac investigations and procedures per year including: 20,000 Echos.

You will be joining a team of 65 staff comprised of Cardiac Physiologists, admin, and support staff , who work together to support a team of highly skilled, world class Cardiology Consultants.

As a tertiary cardiac centre, we provide echocardiography support to a wide range of specialties including cardiothoracic surgery, interventional cardiology, TAVI, electrophysiology procedures, inherited cardiac conditions, heart failure, and paediatrics. Additionally, we provide service to 3 intensive care units, a large CCU, and Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

Our department has top spec echocardiography machines and analytical systems/software. All of which have strain and 3D capability. We have a multi-vendor fleet of Echo machines from GE, Siemens, and Phillips.

As a Band 7 Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist, you will also be provided with opportunities to enhance your skills as a clinical practitioner by working independently in the Physiologist/Clinical Scientist-led Valve Clinic at St Georges as well as community clinics located in Wimbledon and Roehampton. More specialised training will be provided in Stress echo, 3D, and Strain imaging.

All applicants will be expected to have BSc Clinical Physiology or equivalent and HCPC registration as a clinical scientist or AHCS practitioner/ RCCP registration with at least 2-3 years’ experience at band 6 level. Full BSE accreditation (or European equivalent) is essential.

A 15% recruitment and retention premium will be added to your salary in addition to high cost living allowance (HCA). Furthermore, there are opportunities to participate in a weekend waiting list initiative and private work at enhanced rates.
