We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 100 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We provide a range inpatient and community services to 2m people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England.

We deliver our services by working in partnership with eight local authorities and clinical commissioning groups, a wide range of voluntary organisations, as well as service users, their carers and the public. The services are spread over a wide geographical area of around 3,600 square miles, which includes coastal, rural and industrial areas.

This post is being advertised to address a temporary need for 12 months however the Trust has made the commitment to offer the successful applicant a permanent contract with the Trust. In the event that the need for this post ends, a suitable alternative post will be offered. Applicants should be aware that alternatives may require some flexibility on role and/or location

We are seeking to recruit a Band 5 Community Learning Disability/MH Nurse for our Community based specialist health services for people with Learning Disabilities across the Harrogate and District area.

We are inviting candidates with either an LD nursing background or a MH nursing back to apply

The Harrogate and District CLDT is an experienced team with band 7, 6 and 5 nurses, psychiatry, psychology, OT, Physio, SLT and HCA. We have nurse leadership from the Advanced Nurse Practitioner and there is a very good nurse network across LD services led by the LD Modern Matron. There are networks throughout the wider TEWV services.

There are good development opportunities, good supervision and opportunities to work with a very broad range of service users. We can guarantee that no day will be the same.

The successful candidate will have some experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team that provides services for people with learning disabilities or MH services in addition to demonstrating an ability to delivery of high quality, effective and personalised services to meet the needs of the service user.

You must hold a relevant NMC qualification, and preferably have experience of community clinical setting.

You should be a compassionate, self-motivated and committed individual with excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise your workload.


A key strength will be your ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with the people we support and their families or carers, the multi-disciplinary team and other wider stakeholders.


Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.
