Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital, treating around 50,000 patients each year. We are located in a new, purpose-built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, with administrative services based in Huntingdon.

Founded as a tuberculosis colony in 1918, Royal Papworth Hospital has established an international reputation for excellence in research and innovation. Since carrying out the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979, the hospital now performs more heart, heart-lung and lung transplants each year than any other UK centre.

In addition to transplantation, Royal Papworth Hospital has the UK’s largest Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and is one of five UK centres providing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to patients experiencing severe respiratory failure. It is also the only centre in the UK for a number of specialist services including Pulmonary Endarterectomy and Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).

Cardiothoracic Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP)

Band 8

Full Time (37.5 hours per week) + on-call

This is an exciting time for Royal Papworth Hospital having moved to the new state of the art, purpose built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in April 2019. The move to this site allows Royal Papworth hospital to work alongside some of the world’s leading healthcare companies and organisations including Cambridge University Hospitals, giving our patients immediate access to a range of services and also expanding opportunities in terms of research and education.

We’re looking for Qualified Cardiothoracic SCP’s with a minimum of 4 years experience to join our expanding team. You will be skilled in harvesting conduit, including the radial artery, as well as first and second assisting. You will also participate in aspects of pre, peri and post-operative care of the patient under the direction of the Consultant Surgeons.

Salary range: AFC Band 8.
