This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly, enthusiastic and innovative team of general paediatricians within a leading tertiary paediatric centre, rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.

This is a fixed term locum post for 12 months to cover maternity leave.

You will be joining a team of 14.2 WTE Consultants including this post. Our team includes paediatric trainees, foundation year doctors, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and clinical fellows.

Birmingham Women’s & Children’s NHS Foundation Trust was formed in February 2017 by the integration of Birmingham Children’s and Birmingham Women’s Hospitals. The organisation also hosts child and adolescent mental health services, including an inpatient psychiatric unit and community mental health services for young people. The Trust is a leading teaching and research institution and partner of all the city’s universities.

The General Paediatrics team provides secondary care including outpatient, urgent care and inpatient services to a catchment population of 450,000, representing approximately 45% of the population of the City of Birmingham. We also support the holistic medical care of children with complex needs who are under the care of specialty colleagues. Our clinical work offers huge diversity, maintaining and developing our clinical knowledge and skills. There are plentiful opportunities for quality improvement in patient care, with several colleagues having undergone training in QI methodology. Members of the team have also taken on leadership roles in many areas of the organisation including safeguarding, postgraduate education and IT.
