We are looking to recruit a dynamic, organised and enthusiastic Band 3 Civilian Dental Nurse who will be working within our Dental Department, here at Alanbrooke Barracks in Thirsk.

The successful postholder will provide clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care in DPHC (Dental) dental centres, to enhance force generation and operational capability and minimise dental morbidity on operations.

Please note this a part time position of 16.5 hours per week detailed below:

Wednesday - 4.5hrs Thursday - 8.5hrs with 60 minutes deduction for lunch break Friday - 4.5hrs

Essential Criteria

  • National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) Certificate or NVQ in Oral Health Care Dental Nursing Level 3.
  • Must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC)and able to operate without conditions.

Experience and competence are required in the following areas:

  • Clinical Skills. Clinically competent and current with all aspects of dental nursing in a general dental practice environment. This must include complete familiarity with IPC publications and Decontamination in primary care dental practices.
  • IT Skills. Familiarity and competence in the use of electronic healthcare records.

Applicants who hold the qualifications but are not yet registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) are eligible to apply for this vacancy. However, if found successful it is a requirement that you are registered with the GDC prior to starting in the post.

Further Information

Due to COVID 19, there is now a requirement for dental clinical staff to be fit tested for a FFP3 mask, which has to be worn when managing a patient who is undergoing an aerosol generating procedure (AGP). The successful candidate will be fit tested prior to commencing employment.

We will consider requests to work flexibly, taking into account business needs.

Please note the salary will be pro-rata where part time hours are undertaken.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.

If found successful for this position, you will be required to provide evidence of your immunity to Hepatitis B. Failure to do so may result in the offer of employment being withdrawn.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check.

All employees joining Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a 6-month probation period (unless otherwise advised) effective from the employment start date.
