Here at Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) Central and Wessex region, we are an inclusive and dedicated organisation working to provide excellent care to our entitled personnel!

We are a multidisciplinary primary healthcare team (MDT) delivering primary healthcare nursing including elements of occupational health, and we are looking to recruit a self-motivated Band 5 Practice Nurse who is able to work independently and autonomously within our friendly Primary Health Care team at MOD Lyneham, Chippenham, Wiltshire.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Senior Practice Nurse or Senior Medical Officer (SMO) within the medical facility (MF) and will be responsible for the delivery of appropriate assessment treatment, screening and advice to patients within their professional competence and in accordance with DPHC clinical guidelines and protocols.

Duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing safe, evidence-based, efficient and individualised patient care.
  • Undertaking technical nursing treatments and procedures for patients (e.g. wound care, sutures removal, Electro-Cardiograms (ECGs)).
  • Providing assistance to the SMO performing minor surgery.
  • Assisting with health and well-being clinics (e.g. smoking cessation, weight management, alcohol misuse) using health promotion, health education, screening and therapeutic communication skills.
  • Assisting with people's health screening and education along with provision of family planning services and sexual health.

Essential Criteria

Professional/clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level.

Nurse registration (live registration on the NMC Register).

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is security check.

All employees joining Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a 6-month probation period (unless otherwise advised) effective from the employment start date.

The position offers 37.5 hours per week and requests to work flexibly will be considered, taking into account business needs.
