Speech and Language Therapist – BAND 6

SALARY £32,306 - £39,027 pro rata

We would like to offer this opportunity to join our supportive and friendly team, based at the QEH in Gateshead. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual into this exciting new post.

This post works with other SLT colleagues in the team to provide a service to adults with dysphagia in an in-patient setting with a range of neurological conditions. There are opportunities to work in a number of acute settings including care of the elderly, general medicine, mental health, critical care and emergency care. There are opportunities to be involved in videofluoroscopy and FEES and to work with clients with a tracheostomy. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is currently in a Band 5/6 role to further develop their knowledge and skills with the support of experienced colleagues.

You will be expected to have experience of the assessment and management of adults with dysphagia, and have a keen interest in helping to develop new ways of working with this client group in order to further develop the service with SLT colleagues. We work closely with dietetics and the Nutrition Team.

We would require the candidate to have completed a post graduate dysphagia course or equivalent.

We offer full professional support including an appraisal system, regular Team meetings, and close liaison with experienced therapists. The team is based together offering plenty of informal supervision and case discussion. Professional development and involvement in Clinical Governance issues are actively encouraged. We are an enthusiastic and close Adult team with good administrative support, and you would be valued as a member of this team and the wider Department.
