4 x Consultant in Infectious Diseases & Medical Microbiology/Virology (ID/MMV) or Medical Microbiology or Medical Virology


Salary: £84,559 - £114,003 per annum


Full Time – 40 hours per week (10 Programmed Activities)



These four posts will create a new core infection service team for the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospital sites. As Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals has now merged with Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, the postholders will be fully integrated with Consultant, Nursing and management staff currently providing services to the St Thomas’, Guy’s and Evelina Children’s hospital sites, as part of a single, integrated Directorate of Infection.


It is anticipated that appointees will together have CCST and/or sub-speciality interests covering all aspects of clinical and laboratory microbiology, virology & mycology, infection prevention & control and antimicrobial stewardship. One post-holder will be appointed as clinical-lead, one as infection control doctor, and one as lead for each of the Brompton and Harefield hospital sites, but with all four working together to provide an integrated service.


In line with the Trust’s overall strategic direction, the intention is to further integrate service delivery between all 5 hospital sites. This provides opportunity to expand inter-site infection services in specialist clinical settings such as critical care, ECMO and the airborne High Consequences Infectious Diseases units, or for management of particular viral, fungal or mycobacterial pathogens following transplantation and in other immunocompromised patient groups. Appointees will also be supported to engage with translational research, particularly clinical trials and implementation of specialist diagnostics including pathogen genomics and with a focus on cardio-respiratory diseases.
