Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the UK’s leading heart and lung hospital, treating around 50,000 patients each year. We are located in a new, purpose-built hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, with administrative services based in Huntingdon.

Founded as a tuberculosis colony in 1918, Royal Papworth Hospital has established an international reputation for excellence in research and innovation. Since carrying out the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979, the hospital now performs more heart, heart-lung and lung transplants each year than any other UK centre.

In addition to transplantation, Royal Papworth Hospital has the UK’s largest Respiratory Support and Sleep Centre (RSSC) and is one of five UK centres providing Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) to patients experiencing severe respiratory failure. It is also the only centre in the UK for a number of specialist services including Pulmonary Endarterectomy and Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty (BPA).

In October 2019, we became the first trust to be rated ‘outstanding’ in all five areas assessed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) (safe, caring, effective, responsive, and well-led). We are committed to providing a positive, supportive experience for all of our staff.

Transplant

Staff Nurse Band 5

Full Time (37 ½ hours per week) plus oncall

Join the most successful Cardiothoracic transplanting centre in the country. We are very proud of our success and a number of opportunities have arisen for people to join our team following our move to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

We will support you to achieve your potential by offering you a programme of development within all/some areas of the Transplant Unit including;

  • Organ retrieval
  • The assessment of patients for Transplant
  • Inpatient care of pre and post-Transplant patients
  • Outpatient care of pre and post-Transplant patients

• Registered or pre-registered nurse or other registered Health Care Professional
