Physician Associate, Carlisle 37.5 hours per week

Come and join our surgical team as a Physician Associate (PA)! This vacancy offers the opportunity to be part of a growing, vibrant composite workforce team, providing effective health care to the people of North Cumbria and working to bring about dynamic change in the way patients requiring health care are managed in North Cumbria.

Based at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, our PA posts in Surgery will involve working in relevant departments rotating to support skill and knowledge acquisition, and as such you will have the opportunity to have flexible working areas where you are able to practise.

Support is provided by a Divisional Lead as well as a Medical Supervisor. PAs will have supervisors throughout their employment.

Post holders will be required to utilise advanced clinical decision making and clinical skills to effectively manage patients within all settings. The Physicians Associate role is pivotal within both medical and nursing teams, helping to coordinate, communicate and deliver clinical care on a day to day basis.

You will provide expert assistance to the Consultant, middle grade and junior doctors in the provision of a high quality, patient centred service as part of an award winning Composite Workforce within our Trust. You will be expected to participate in all aspects of the patient pathway as appropriate and will be expected to perform delegated duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge. The posts will involve regular operating theatre experience.

The Trust supports 7 day working in the delivery of care to our patients. Shift patterns will vary dependent upon area of practice at any given time as care is centred on the service requirements.

There will be a focus on acquiring skills and knowledge in the speciality field whilst under the supervision and guidance of a consultant and mentor to oversee and aid their career development. We have received excellent feedback from both students and the University of Central Lancashire on the experience of their students whilst on placement with us. We are keen to hear from anyone wishing to develop their Physician Associate career in a University hospital setting.

PAs will have the opportunity to consolidate their learning, in a supportive, friendly environment, with a tailored preceptorship programme and robust appraisal framework. You will have a named clinical supervisor and access to apply for study leave for courses and conferences to support your learning.

Salary will be at mid-point Agenda for Change Band 6 (year 1), with progression to Agenda for Change Band 7 thereafter, subject to a competency review after 12 months.

Enhanced Check: £44 + administration cost of £4.20 = £15.20 deducted from 1st month salary and £11 deducted from salary over following 3 months.
