Band 5 Registered Nurse Six Monthly Rotational Post Between the Inpatient Unit and Community Nursing Team

Mountbatten Hampshire (formerly Countess Mountbatten) is a forward thinking and innovative hospice, providing outstanding end of life care to the community of Hampshire. Mountbatten Hampshire has recently recruited new leadership as part of the wider leadership team to help take forward our 5 year strategy, so this is an exciting time to join our team.

The journey towards end of life can be a complex one. Medical advances and changes in family lives mean that the care we provide to our patients and their families constantly evolves to meet the needs and expectations of our Community.

At Mountbatten Hampshire we pride ourselves on delivering the highest standard of care and support to patients and their families, and constantly strive to ensure we reach as many people as possible, whenever and wherever they may need us. The hospice serves a population of approximately 600,000 and covers Southampton, and parts of West Hampshire. We are a registered charity and company, with our community at the heart of our services.

Currently we have a 21 bedded In-Patient Unit (IPU), a large day, self-help and rehabilitation centre, a community nursing team, Psychosocial care & Bereavement service and an education team. However, our services and approach to care are being constantly developed and expanded to meet the growing demands of increasingly complex health issues and the needs of the community we serve. To meet this increasing demand, we have expanded our nursing services to provide a 24/7 Hospice at Home service which is delivered by our Community Nursing team.

We have developed this new rotational role where you would spend 6 months a year in the In-Patient Unit (IPU), where you would have the chance to develop your in-depth knowledge of Palliative and end of life care. The other half of the year you would spend in the Community Nursing Team with the opportunity to develop yourself as an autonomous practitioner in the delivery of nursing care in the community.

Successful applicants will need to hold a First Level Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and be committed to developing their nursing practice. Recent experience in palliative and end of life care is essential. We are open to Newly Qualified Nurses applying who have a keen interest in Palliative and end of life, this rotational post would be an excellent way of gaining broader experience across IPU and Community. You will need to hold a full UK Driving Licence and have use of a vehicle with Business Use Insurance. Up to 37.5 hours per week to be worked on a rota basis which includes evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
