An exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Trainee or Registered Clinical/Forensic Psychologist.

St Andrew’s Healthcare provides, specialist mental healthcare for people with complex needs. The charity employs Clinical, Forensic, and Counselling Psychologists, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapists, Trainees and Assistant Psychologists. We work closely with Universities to provide Trainee and undergraduate psychology placements and we support volunteer posts.

Our main work is delivering direct clinical interventions in the form of assessment, formulation and treatment, involving individual service users, families and groups. We also provide clinical consultancy, training and supervision and have an active Research Department. Our psychologists have specialist knowledge, the capacity to draw on a wide theoretical base and the ability to devise individually tailored strategies for complex problems.

 

The role

The post holder will have a split role between a sixteen-bedded male medium secure brain injury ward (Rose ward) and a seventeen-bedded male medium secure working age ward (Robinson ward).).  

Relevant areas of expertise and oportunity are risk assessment; neuropsychology; serious mental health problems; and offence focused interventions. Desirable Competencies include delivering: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; behavioural and offence-related interventions; DBT or other trauma focussed therapies. Pursuit of professional interests related to specialist fields are encouraged.

 

Rose Ward - Male brain injury – Medium Secure (0.5 WTE)

Rose is a purpose built neuropsychiatry unit for men with neurological and mental health conditions who require neurobehavioural rehabilitation in a forensic environment. Diagnoses include: Acquired or Traumatic Brain Injury, dementia, stroke, epilepsy, Huntington’s disease (HD), learning disabilities, psychosis and personality disorder.  We pride ourselves on managing the most complex cases, as the only service of this kind south of Liverpool. We offer innovative therapy and treatment and have received awards and presented findings via conferences and publications.

 

Robinson ward – working age males – Medium Secure (0.5 WTE)

The post holder could cover an adult ward with patients who have primary diagnosis of psychotic disorders or major mood disorders, but possibly other co-morbidities. The post may involve line management and clinical responsibilities and the post holder will play a key role in implementing formulation driven therapeutic interventions, including those recommended by NICE guidelines.
