Band 8a Sustainability Lead

“2020 has been dominated by COVID-19 and is the most pressing health emergency facing us. But undoubtedly climate change poses the most profound long term threat to the health of the nation. “It is not enough for the NHS to treat the problems caused by air pollution and climate change, from asthma to heart attacks and strokes. We need to play our part in tackling them at source” Simon Stevens.

If you want to be at the forefront of University Hospital Birmingham’s sustainability response this would be the opportunity for you. This is a new role for the organisation to lead the Trust’ response to reducing its climate impact and help to meet the NHS Net Zero Carbon aspirations. The Trust has in place a Board approved comprehensive Green Plan to significantly reduce not only its controllable carbon emissions through reducing its energy consumption, but also to achieve a significant modal shift in active travel, support local producers, improve access to green spaces, reduce waste, and improve clinical pathways to be more sustainable.

The successful candidate will provide focus and energy to the Trust’s Green Plan delivery, working directly to the Director of Capital Planning and Developments and accountable to the Chief Innovation Officer. The post holder will need to possess a proven track record in achieving the delivery of organisation wide schemes, excellent communication and influencing skills, project management experience, experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment, and be comfortable working on their own initiative.

For further information please contact Tim Jones on 0121 371 4337

All posts involving access to persons in receipt of health services will be subject to a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.

Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with us; this will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances of your offences.

Staff recruited from outside of the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

Successful candidates will be automatically enrolled onto the Trust staff bank UHB+.
