Advanced Nurse Practitioner/ Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner - Calderdale Memory Assessment Service

We have a vacancy for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner/ Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner within the Calderdale Memory Assessment Service in the Calderdale & Kirklees BDU.Applications are invited from nurses who are either; currently working at Advanced Nurse Practitioner level with people experiencing dementia, or for the Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner post, are looking for an opportunity to be supported to achieve this.

 

  1. If you are currently practicing as a Non-Medical Prescriber with clinical experience related to working with people with Dementia and you are looking to progress to an Advanced Nurse Practitioner role. As the skills and knowledge acquired through the PG Cert in Dementia for Practitioners with a Special Interest are essential to the person specification of the Advanced Nurse Practitioner role, if you are currently a Band 6 Nurse and a Non-Medical Prescriber you will be employed as a Band 6 Nurse Prescriber within the Memory Assessment Service for the duration of study. On successful completion of the course the post will automatically transfer into the Band 7 Advanced Nurse Practitioner role. There will be a mandatory requirement to study for and successfully complete the training within the first 12 months of employment.
  2. If you are a Band 6 nurse who is not currently a non-medical prescriber you will be supported to complete the Non-Medical Prescribing course and after a period of consolidation you can then complete the PG Cert in Dementia for Practitioners with a Special Interest and on successful completion of the course the post will automatically transfer into the Band 7 Advanced Nurse Practitioner role. There will be a mandatory requirement to study for and successfully complete the NMP training within the first 12 months of employment and a mandatory requirement to study for and successfully complete the PG Cert in Dementia in the 2nd year of employment.

This post provides an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and innovative practitioner and the successful candidate will work within an established Memory Assessment Service, based at Laura Mitchell Health & Wellbeing Centre in Halifax, and will provide advanced levels of autonomous nursing practices to assess, investigate, diagnose and prescribe within the guidelines of the memory pathway.

In this role you will provide full cycle patient care by:

Assessing, stabilising, treating and managing patients.

Independently and autonomously assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatment/interventions and care for patients with attention to physical, emotional, social, cultural, and mental health issues.

Be responsible for the administration and supply of medication to patients to set criteria.

Providing support such as advice, guidance, and training on professional nursing issues, and taking part in clinical governance activities.

Work in a collaborative manner with others to ensure seamless service delivery.

Participate in the use of reflective practice, nursing research, audit, and clinical supervision.

Engage with the clinical supervision provided by an identified Consultant Psychiatrist.

 

The qualities we are looking for in potential candidates are:

Independent Non-Medical prescriber qualification (desirable).

Experience of working autonomously.

Experience of leadership responsibilities.

Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.

Established clinical background in working with service users presenting with a cognitive deficit.

Evidence of continuing professional development.

A commitment and the attitude to complete the required period of study.

 

You will be working with a well-established multidisciplinary team that supports staff to develop both personally and professionally. We have a mix of Memory Nurses, Occupational Therapist, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatrists and a Clinical Psychologist.

There are regular Advanced Nurse Practitioners network meetings and professional supervision available. A full comprehensive induction will be provided and access to further training options. The service places staff clinical and management supervision, appraisal, support and professional development as a high priority.

Full UK driving license and use of own car is essential.
