Specialty Doctor in Haematology

The Northern Devon Healthcare Trust wishes to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Haematology. The post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week and is based at the North Devon District Hospital, a designated Cancer Unit, combined with the Cancer Centre at Exeter. The population of both North and East Devon totals more than 600,000.

This post is designed to strengthen the medical management of Haematological malignancy predominantly for the North Devon Population and to provide daily continuity of care for patients whose treatment is coordinated as part of a joint service with the RD&E.

The applicant will preferably hold MRCP or an equivalent further qualification and should have previous experience in the field. Training in the specialty will be offered so potential applicants who have an interest in Haematology but limited experience are encouraged to make contact with the Lead Haematologist to discuss options for a Trust Grade post while relevant experience and training is gained.

Further information about the post can be obtained by contacting Dr Paul Kerr, Lead Consultant Haematologist, telephone 01271 349198. To arrange an informal visit please contact the Cancer Manager and Service Manager for Haematology & Oncology 01271 337816.

Our values guide everything we do. At all times, we aim to:

  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Strive for excellence
  • Respect diversity
  • Act with integrity
  • Listen and support others

Our teams of care professionals work with patients and their families to support peoples’ independence, health and wellbeing. We provide support to avoid hospital admissions, and if an admission is necessary, we try to make each patient’s stay in hospital as short and effective as possible before working with them on a safe discharge home.

According to many clinical targets, we rate as one of the best performing non-foundation trusts in England, because we treat patients in line with national waiting time standards, have very few hospital-acquired infections and meet our four-hour waiting times for urgent care. We have a huge range of clinical expertise that we share across professional spheres to ensure people get world-class care when they need it.

In our most recent staff survey, our staff voted us in the top 10% of NHS provider organisations to work for and we also came out as the top provider in the South West for our overall results. Our patients (through the Friends and Family Test) regularly report an average of over 95% satisfaction with our services.

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. For further information and to self-assess the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship, please visit the UK Border Agency website. Note: we will be unable to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship for Bank positions.

Please note that we may close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants.
