The Role:        

We have long term placement opportunities available for Medical Laboratory Assistant Band 2 available at Salford Royal NHS FT,

Skills/Responsibilities:

  • Assist and liaise with staff, patients and visitors who attend Cellular Pathology
  • Answer and laboratory areas. Telephones and deal with incoming enquiries in both specimen reception
  • Ensure rapid processing of all urgent tests.
  • Report adverse incidents.
  • Attend team briefing and departmental meetings when required.
  • Resolves day to day issues e.g., mislabelled specimens
  • Ensure accurate data entry into pathology computer system
  • Monitor equipment performance and record details as required
  • Label, store, dispose of, package and despatch samples as required.
  • Sort, file and distribute laboratory reports.
  • Proactive management of slide collection and filing to ensuring accuracy and timeliness to help with Cancer MDT preparations and similar.
  • Collect and sort laboratory coats and dirty laundry.
  • Collect and take post to the post room when necessary.
  • Prioritises urgent work.
  • Bends & lifts boxes of goods / microscope slides, lifts waste bins, trays, racks
  • Assist with some basic analytical processes
  • Assist with specimen description and tissue selection, keeping accurate records of tissue samples processed
  • Assist in preparation of sample reagents / QC material to ensure accuracy of patient results.
  • Assists with the disposal of residual human tissue samples in accordance with guidelines and HTA regulations.
  • Ensure accurate data entry into pathology computer system
  • Monitor equipment performance and record details as required
