We have a CQC rating as good overall and we have some key areas of outstanding practice with an outstanding rating for being well led at every level.

Buildings, names and models of care have changed over the centuries, but one thing has remained constant and is prevalent among our 5,900+ staff members: the enduring commitment to providing the best health and care for the people of Bolton.

Optometrist - Acute/Same Day Emergency Care

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and dynamic Optometrist to join our team of 7 Optometrists, 6 Orthoptists,10 Consultant Ophthalmologists and 7 Associate Specialists offering a range of specialties. We are looking for an Optometrist to undertake dedicated clinics to support our same day emergency care pathway.

We provide community paediatric clinics; community paediatric special needs clinics, low vision clinics, specialist contact lenses and general hospital refraction clinics. You will be involved in managing urgent and same day emergency care of patients referred from Accident and Emergency as part of your role.

You must hold a valid UK driving licence and own a car to be able to access community clinics if support is needed.

The successful person may be involved in retinal, pre/post-assessment cataract, laser and glaucoma clinics alongside ophthalmologists as well as support our same day emergency care pathway.

The Ophthalmic Department is committed to clinical teaching and we supervise pre-registration Optometry graduates on a regular basis and often partake in assisting undergraduate orthoptic and nursing students with their clinical experience. Junior doctors often join us in refraction clinics. Experience in supervision is, therefore, desirable but not essential.
