To provide a comprehensive secretarial and administrative service to four Consultant Histopathologists, one Honorary Pathologist and their clinical team. To work as a team member to ensure effective provision of secretarial, telephone contact point, cross cover and workload in order to meet departmental objectives.

The Medical Secretary will be based in the Pathology Department and will provide administrative support to the Histopathology team.

The post holder will fulfil all tasks and work as part of a team.To meet the needs of the service, the post holder may be required to work in other administrative areas as appropriate as directed by the line manager and may, on occasion, be required to deputise for the Senior Medical Secretary.

Histopathology processes 10,000 surgical requests and 1300 non gynae Cytology requests per annum. The Mortuary performs 350 post mortems per annum.

The Histopathology team of two Senior BMS, two Specialist BMS, two trainee BMS, two BSW, four Consultant Histopathologists, one Honorary Pathologist, one Lead Histopathology Secretary and two Histopathology Support Secretaries.

The Histopathology Support Secretary will be based at NDDH.

To meet the needs of the service, the post holder may be required to work in other areas as appropriate as directed by the line manager.

The post holder will be required to work Monday-Friday 08:30-17:00
