Full time: 37.50 hours per week


We warmly welcome applications from qualified or nearly qualified Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist with a keen interest in work with adolescents and their families, to join a dynamic, highly specialist adolescent service for young people Greenwich. You will play a key role in supporting and developing the provision of psychoanalytic Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy in the team along-side the senior CPT. With creativity and a commitment to teamwork, you will bring a much valued developmental and psychoanalytic perspective to the work of a multi-disciplinary comprising of psychotherapists, clinical psychologists, psychiatrist, specialist mental health nurses and youth offending worker.

The Greenwich Adolescent CAMHS Team offer young people and their families an intensive, partly outreach, community-based treatment. This post will include professional and practice development while ensuring high quality client-centred care. As well as generic case work, you will provide high quality evidence-based child and adolescent psychotherapy treatments, including STPP, short- and longer-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy, assessments of mental states and consultations. You will also be encouraged to develop specialist interests for example in group work. The team operates within the Ambit model to meet the mental health needs of this complex, challenging group so you will also have an opportunity to work closely with multi-agency colleagues. There is a culture of support and close teamwork, and the lead child psychotherapist for Oxleas facilitates a monthly reflective practice with the team. There will also be opportunities for training and development in other therapeutic models such as mentalisation based therapy (MBT) and EMDR.

The adolescent team sits alongside four other teams, a generic, LAC/Edge of care, learning disability and neurodevelopmental team and early intervention team. It also links closely with an expanding tri-borough crisis team. The teams are collocated at Highpoint House. This means it is possible for you to further develop your clinical skills with another age group, or develop join work across teams, for instance group work for young people or parents.

The Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy group in Oxleas Trust, covering three south London boroughs, is a well established, respected and active community in itself of more than 30 child psychotherapists. The group meets termly and for over ten years have run an annual conference promoting psychoanalytic thinking within and outside the Trust. You will also be one of ten child psychotherapists within Greenwich CAMHS, who are a supportive and open minded team, with a strong culture and identity. The Greenwich CPT meets monthly, runs a monthly psychoanalytic journal club and a psychodynamic workshop. From the start of Covid-19 pandemic it has run a clinical forum to support CPT’s incorporate remote working, think about issues of diversity and the impact of BLM, and process as a group the challenges of the past 18 months.
