Interview date 4th August 2021

This post provides a unique opportunity to work in the Children’s Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities (CCTPLD) and the Intensive Support Team (IST). The post will initially be based in the CCTPLD for a period of 12 months, prior to moving to the IST, offering the successful applicant experience of working in community and intensive settings, as well as with child and adult populations.

The Children’s Community Team works with children and young people who have a learning disability with / or presenting with a mental illness and / or challenging behaviour. The CCTPLD consists of Community Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, a Clinical Assistant and Occupational Therapists. We provide assessments, formulations and interventions to young people and their families through direct and non-direct work. There is opportunity for supervision and consultation to other professionals and services, training, group work and direct clinical work.

The Intensive Support Team (IST) is a community based service delivering specialist multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment locally for individuals (fourteen years and over) who have a learning disability with / or presenting with a mental illness and / or severe challenging behaviour. The IST consists of experienced Nurses, a Speech and Language Therapist and Support Workers, and is clinically led by a Principal Clinical Psychologist, Senior Nurse and Advanced Occupational therapist, alongside an Operational Manager. The core functions of the IST involve direct intense support, joint working with other services (e.g. Community Team for Adults with Learning Disabilities; Community Mental Health Teams; Community Team for Children) and offering consultancy to other professionals.

This post also offers the opportunity for progression through the NHFT Preceptorship route, a two year developmental period, which culminates in progressing to a substantive 8a post. This post is for 0.6 (WTE) however we have other posts available and would consider full time 1.0 (WTE).

NHFT are known for having a strong, Trust-wide psychology network who meet monthly for peer supervision and CPD through seminars across specialisms. Psychology therefore has a prominent voice in the organisation and is well regarded. This has been demonstrated most recently during the pandemic with the psychological wellbeing of all staff a key priority.

As an organisation, we are working towards team leadership models, where clinical leaders work alongside operational managers to share responsibility for service outcomes. We are invested in moving away from individualising narratives and towards ‘healthy team functioning’ and compassionate leadership across the Trust. A lot of exciting co-production work is also happening with our experts by experience.

If you are looking to expand your experience in varying services, be part of a supportive network and work for a Trust wherein psychology has a prominent role, you should apply.

Please contact recruiting psychologists Dr Helen Fletcher (CCTPLD - 01604 657700) or Dr Sheetal Prajapati (IST - 01536 452 092) for a discussion about the post.

NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community. Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible. This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools. We also provide health services to several prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire etc.

It is our vision to be a leading provider of outstanding, compassionate care. Our most recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection recognised this with an ‘Outstanding’ rating overall, as well as an ‘Outstanding’ rating for the Caring domain. Applicants will need to demonstrate a commitment to delivering outstanding compassionate care and also commit to the Trust mission statement: Making a difference for you, with you. Our vision, mission and values are all part of the roadmap for all we do.
