An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic part time Consultant Psychiatrist to join The Older Peoples Mental Health team working in the community locality of East Southampton with a catchment area of 6,000 Older Adults.

The post holder will work closely with the medical team covering East Southampton which consists of another permanent full time consultant as well as rotating higher and junior trainees (full time specialist registrar (ST4-6) and a full time FY2 doctor) working in the East Southampton team covering a total population of 16,500.

 

The East Southampton team is a mature team with its nursing staff able to undertake initial assessments of referrals including urgent referrals as part of an established duty system. There is an established team manager and dedicated memory nurse as well as in-reach nurse into care and nursing homes. There is also a part time consultant clinical psychologist who provides psychological therapies as well as neuropsychological assessments. There is only one nursing vacancy in the team currently at the time of advertisement.

 

The post holder will be based at Tom Rudd unit, Moorgreen Hospital, West End, Southampton, SO30 3JB where the community team and administration staff are co-located.

The post holder will only have community responsibilities and on call duties (approximately 1 in 18).

Southern Health NHS Foundation (SHFT) Trust was established on 1st April 2011 with the merger of Hampshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Hampshire Community Health Care Trust. It employs approximately 9000 people and provides Specialist Mental Health Services, learning disability services and community health care services.

OPMH service in Southampton is part of the specialist mental health division of Southampton covering the city of Southampton. The service has a good relationship with the local Southampton city clinical Commissioning Group(CCG) and is responsive to local primary care needs and works closely with Adult Services and the CCG to develop locally based Services.

OPMH service also has a positive working relationship with the University Of Southampton Faculty Of Medicine where there are opportunities for the post holder to develop a career in teaching. There is also an active programme of Research and Development based in Moorgreen hospital in the Memory Assessment Research Centre (MARC) for the post holder to develop any interest in Dementia research.

Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice. They must possess the MRCPsych or equivalent qualification and must also be on the GMC Specialist Register for adult or old age Psychiatry (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR (CP) date within 6 months of interview. Applicants must also be able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post.
