Band 6 Pulmonary Rehabilitation Physiotherapist (21 hours 45 minutes/week over 4 days)-23 months

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Respiratory Physiotherapist at the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to join our Pulmonary Rehabilitation team. The post holder will work with people who have chronic respiratory conditions, such as COPD, to improve their physical and psychological conditions and promote the long-term adherence of health-enhancing behaviours through exercise training, health education, and breathing techniques.

You must be a well-organised individual, with excellent interpersonal skills, able to demonstrate effective teamwork and have experience of respiratory physiotherapy within the NHS. The post requires concise decision-making and ability to liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team. Appointments with patients will be a mix of face-to-face appointments, group sessions and home visits.

This post is suitable for applicants who already work at band 6 level, or experienced band 5 Physiotherapists who have a special interest in respiratory physiotherapy and are looking to expand their knowledge and skills. We are committed to CPD and will work with you to further your knowledge, skills and experience through staff supervision, mentoring and in-service training.

Roles and Responsibilities-

To provide a high standard of physiotherapy care (assessment, treatment and advice) to a complex patient group in pulmonary and cardiac rehabilitation.

To be able to independently assess patients in their own home environment (lone working)

To be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team rehabilitation team

Maintain own clinical professional development (CPD) by keeping up to date with new trends and developments in area of work

Maintain and develop current knowledge of evidence-based practice, developing specialist knowledge of particular conditions and patient groups.

Attend and actively participate in team in-service training within the speciality area

Provide cover for annual leave of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Band 6 post holder. This includes working Monday and Thursday evenings until 8pm. Advanced notice will be given.

Following a period of in-house assessment, induction and training (as appropriate), to be part of the emergency weekend and bank holiday duty on-call co-ordinator rota.

The successful candidate must have:

Knowledge of a range of pulmonary, cardiac and general medical conditions and their impact on patient’s functional abilities.

NHS experience in a rotational post providing a broad range of experience across the core areas of physiotherapy

Organisation and time management skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Flexible and adaptable

Commitment to personal and service development

Confident IT Skills

Degree or equivalent Diploma in Physiotherapy State Registered with Health & Care Professions Council

Full UK Driver’s License
