The role

We are looking for a 0.4WTE Adult Psychoanalytic/Psychodynamic Psychotherapist Trainer and Professional Lead to join our friendly, creative and well established team based at Psychotherapy Training Unit, in Exeter.

The successful applicant will contribute to the leadership of the PTU (Psychotherapy Training Unit) to deliver psychotherapy training to junior doctors and other psychotherapy trainees. The post holder will have specific responsibility for the psychodynamic training and supervision of trainees within the unit. The post holder will work closely with colleagues in PTU, psychology and psychological therapies, and with the wider Adult Community Mental Health Teams to ensure the provision of high quality psychotherapy within the unit. You will be responsible for psychotherapy assessments and supervised therapeutic work to clients with severe and complex mental health problems.

We will provide the successful applicant with opportunities for Continuing Professional Development and Supervision for both the psychodynamic training aspect of the post and the Professional Lead aspect of the post. We work closely as a group of trainers and come together regularly as a training committee to discuss and support each other in our work on the Unit. There is usually a lively debate and discussion about issues relating to the provision and development of the work in the PTU.

£53,168 - £62,001 per annum pro rata - 0.4 WTE (15 hours per week)

About you

We would expect you to have a qualification in either Psychodynamic or Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (Registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council). We would also expect you to have experience in providing psychodynamic supervision to other staff. In addition we would expect you to have experience of working in the NHS with patients presenting with severe and complex needs and of having taken on a leader ship role in this setting.

The location

Your base will be Wonford House in Exeter, however under the current COVID-19 conditions this may be subject to alternative arrangements/change for example home working. In the PTU we are a small team of staff that provide a highly valued junior doctor psychotherapy training programme in Devon Partnership NHS Trust. We offer a combination of psychodynamic, group analytic, cognitive analytic and systemic psychotherapy training to junior doctors in the trust and contribute to their RCPsych psychotherapy evaluation. We offer psychotherapy assessments to patients presenting with severe and complex mental health difficulties and supervise short term Cognitive Analytic Therapy, and long term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy provided by trainees. Junior doctors also have the opportunity to develop their group and systemic practice in their 3rd years on the programme. We also offer a Balint group as part of the training provision to junior doctors and other trainees.
