Following impending retirement, we are looking to hire a Procurement Director to join our multi award winning procurement service. With the changes to legislation around Clinical Procurement and the introduction of ICS’s this is an opportunity to build on the success the team has had and take it forward into the new world of clinical acquisition. As a key part of its role the procurement team in Arden and GEM is the National lead for Clinical Procurements for direct commissioning and plays a pivotal role working with the other CSU’s in providing services nationally and regionally.

Key aspects of the role:

  • The post holder will be responsible for setting and maintaining the strategic direction of the Clinical Procurement and Market Management of the service.
  • Developing the future offers to Integrated Care Systems and establishing new relationships.
  • Leading the National Direct Commissioning Contract for Specialised services, Armed Forces, Military Health and Primary care.
  • Building a new service that reflects legislative changes.
  • Providing business case support services to NHSE’s Commercial Executive Group.
  • Monitoring, reviewing, and analysing bids and tenders with suppliers, including the negotiation of service agreements and contracts.
  • Maintaining company budgets and streamlining costs.
  • Developing the procurement business plan for our customers and our internal business to promote effectiveness and efficiency.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Professional qualification in the field of procurement, preferred (MCIPS) Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and supply or equivalent experience
  • Bachelors / Masters degree in a relevant subject – Procurement, Supply Chain, Business or similar
  • Be able to demonstrate you are a results-oriented, metrics-driven leader with expertise in purchasing, supplier collaboration, development, and compliance
  • Proficiency in the principles of lean six sigma would be advantageous
  • Experience of working in a highly complex collaborative environment, where you have influenced stakeholders and decisions makers to work at scale and be the subject matter expert.
  • Sound knowledge of public sector procurement, EU law and national implementation (contracting regulations)
  • Significant cross-industry and cross-category experience
  • A strong work ethic, allowing the incumbent to work closely with members of the team
  • A desire to motivate and drive change within the organisation
  • In-depth vendor & supplier management experience, ideally gained within public sector procurement
  • Analytical mindset, but also creativity to seek, encourage and find non-traditional approaches that have historically “boxed-in” procurement
