We are keen to recruit an assistant to the school nursing team, fixed term for 1 year to cover for a secondment (1st September 2021-31st August 2022).

We are seeking an energetic person who is motivated, diligent, trustworthy and child focussed. This role will include clinical and administrative tasks and will include travel between bases and schools and so access to your own transport is essential.

The school nursing service lead on the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme for school aged children, this includes the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP). A core part of this role will include the scheduling of school based measuring sessions; provision of safe and child centred health screening sessions in school; inputting of data on to the child's health record; phone contact with families to discuss health screening outcomes and offer health promoting advice in respect of child's nutrition and healthy weight; administrative tasks linked to NCMP such as the provision of outcome letters to families etc.

The Children's Immunisation Team deliver immunisation sessions in school settings and part of the School Nurse Assistant role is to support these sessions as the "gatekeeper" - this involves organising the flow of children to immunising nurses; liaison and communication with school staff; supporting and reassuring children attending for vaccination; managing the administration of the session - checking that children have attended and identifying those that haven't, inviting them to follow up clinics.

The school nursing team have a significant role in safeguarding children and part of the school nurse assistant role will be supporting the team with managing the information flow between the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) and the school nurse team. You will also be pivotal in supporting the team to manage the flow through of referrals and tasks, supporting with the allocation and organisation of clinical activity.

This post is offered as part time and could be worked as:

25h/w term time only (39weeks per year) or 24h/w (42weeks per year (term time plus three weeks)
