We are responsible for running a family of ten hospitals across seven separate sites, providing a wide range of services from comprehensive local general hospital care through to highly specialised regional and national services.

We are the main provider of hospital care to approximately 750,000 people in Manchester and Trafford and the single biggest provider of specialised services in the North West of England. Our vision is to improve the health and quality of life of our diverse population by building an organisation that:

  • Excels in quality, safety, patient experience, research, innovation and teaching
  • Attracts, develops and retains great people
  • Is recognised internationally as a leading healthcare provider.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Senior Bioinformatician - Translational Lead, to join the North West Genomic Laboratory Hub (NW GLH) at Manchester Foundation Trust (MFT) and be part of one of the largest Acute Trusts in the UK, employing over 28,000 staff.

This is a permanent position based at, and working closely with, the NW NHS Genomics Laboratory Hub (NW GLH) [Manchester site at St Mary’s Hospital]. The NW GLH is one of 7 GLHs recently created as part of a national re-organisation to provide a national genomic medicine service. It is a highly regarded, UKAS accredited, NHS clinical service provider of Genomics to a population of 7.2 million people in the North West of England as well as a wide range of national and international specialist referrals. The NW GLH is currently undergoing a significant transformational change program and is in the process of implementing a Whole Genome Sequencing service as well as multiple ancillary projects to support the national genomics service re-organisation.

This is a challenging time to work in genomics healthcare and we are on an exciting mission to provide world-class healthcare for the North West and for some of our services, nationally and internationally.

You will be required to show that you are a dynamic and highly motivated bioinformatician with a proven, high level of scientific and technical skill and expertise. You will have proven research and development experience. You will be responsible for managing a small team of bioinformaticians to develop and deliver a portfolio of translational bioinformatics projects in collaboration with both our laboratory development and clinical bioinformatics teams. The role will be based at our Manchester laboratory site but this is a GLH position, with some travel to the Liverpool laboratory site expected. If you are interested by the prospect of working in a dynamic, supportive and exciting environment where you will be making a difference to patient care we would love to hear from you.

Interviews will be held during the last week of August.
