This post has been identified by NELFT as being eligible for a welcome payment subject to the terms set out within the NELFT Recruitment Policy. This post also attracts a payment equivalent to 10% of your annual basic salary, (pro-rata) which will be paid in 2 payments.

We are in the process of expanding our therapeutic offer and are looking for highly skilled, compassionate, and motivated clinicians, from a range of professional backgrounds, to join us at Kent and Medway Adolescent Hospital (KMAH).

This is an exciting time as we transform and expand the service to establish KMAH as a centre of excellence. Working together with the provider collaborative, and in-line with national drivers, we deliver high quality care in hospital and at home, to provide what young people need, at the right time, and in the right place.

About the Role and Service

This post would be attractive for somebody who is passionate about young people’s mental health and is excited and motivated by the opportunity to develop an excellent service. You will be joining a well-established, skilled, multi-disciplinary team. Our goal is to draw from a wide range of effective interventions to ensure that each young person and their carers receive the care that fits their individual needs.

Kent and Medway Adolescent Hospital hosts 11 inpatients, 3 day patients and 11 enhanced treatment places - supporting young people with a range of psychiatric disorders in a safe, stimulating, and therapeutic environment. Young people are admitted to our unit with severe mental health difficulties including eating disorders, trauma and attachment difficulties, affective disorders, and emotional dysregulation.

Career Development and Training Opportunities

NELFT has exceptional training opportunities and are passionate about staff development. This year the KMAH training programme includes: Dialectic Behaviour Therapy (DBT), AIM 3 assessment and intervention for harmful sexual behaviour, Non-Violent Resistance (NVR), Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Trauma focused cognitive behavioural therapy (TF-CBT), Adaptive Mentalization-Based Integrative Treatment (AMBIT), and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming (EMDR). Research and development are at the heart of maintaining innovation and opportunities to engage in research and quality improvement are well supported. About the location

The Kent and Medway Adolescent Hospital is a fantastic standalone modern building, set in beautiful grounds across 27 acres of idyllic Kent countryside. This offers a peaceful working and therapeutic environment for both staff and young people. There are opportunities in the grounds for both therapeutic and recreational activities in woodland, fields, and gardens. The unit has ample free parking for staff and a good train service to our local station, Staplehurst. Free overnight accommodation is also available for staff upon request.

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

At NELFT we set very high standards to ensure we provide quality services. We require prospective employees to carry out an online literacy and numeracy test, equivalent to NVQ Level 2. NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
