Due to new investment in our service, a fantastic opportunity has arisen to expand our Integrated Community Children’s Nursing Service and appoint two advanced paediatric nurse practitioners. This is an opportunity for existing advanced paediatric nurse practitioners, or for highly skilled, senior paediatric nurses keen to develop advanced nursing capabilities as trainees. Existing Advanced Nurse Practitioners who are able to demonstrate the full capabilities would be appointed to a permanent position at Band 8a, and trainees would be appointed at Band 7 on a fixed term contract with a selection process to the permanent Advanced Paediatric Nurse post at the end of their traineeship. Please see the job description and traineeship addendum for further details. As part of the selection process, candidates for the traineeship will also be required to submit an essay based on a clinical question given by our educational partners.

Our established, passionate and dedicated integrated Community Children’s Nursing Service (iCCNS) works collaboratively with children, young people (CYP), families and the wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure safe care is provided within the community wherever possible. We deliver high quality and holistic, child centred care to CYP who require nursing intervention, across Portsmouth and the South East Hampshire area with acute short term conditions, long term conditions, complex needs, life-limiting and life-threatening illness, including CYP requiring palliative and end of life care.

These new and exciting posts of Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner have been funded with the aim of enhancing our integration with our acute and primary care providers further and enabling more children to receive healthcare at or close to home. There will be a particular focus on supporting children with urgent and short term health needs and end of life care, however, the appointee will be expected to develop advanced capabilities across the full range of community children's nursing functions. In addition to your advanced clinical practice, you will be expected to develop capabilities across all four pillars of advanced clinical practice, as outlined in the Multiprofessional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice.

You will need to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be able to develop new services and pathways of care using quality improvement methodology. You will have excellent organisational skills and will have the initiative to work autonomously and effectively. You will demonstrate the ability to provide effective leadership within the team, supporting other clinicians with their development and capabilties, and being a passionate advocate both for children's community nursing and for advanced practice. This post requires that you hold a full UK driving licence and have access to the use of a car.
