Consultant Psychiatrist – Crisis and Home Treatment Team

We are seeking to appoint to the above post within the Doncaster Care Group. The Trust provides a comprehensive mental health service to Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire and is divided into three geographically based Care Groups with an additional Children’s Care Group which covers all three localities.

This is an exciting time to join RdaSH and you will be able to influence and shape our continuous improvement.We are looking for dynamic and flexible candidates with a good understanding of the role of the consultant and the ability to work in an appropriately boundaried way whilst displaying clear clinical leadership and support to the MDT.

The Crisis and Home Treatment Team is a multi-disciplinary team and consists of nursing, psychology, social care and occupational therapy. The team provides assessment of patients with acute mental health presentations, risk assessment and risk management plans, initiation of and monitoring of relevant clinical interventions. Additionally the team provide important liaison with other doctors and MDT’s in community teams, inpatient mental health services and primary care. A new development in the team is the provision of a psychiatric decision unit providing an alternative provision to the Emergency department for urgent mental health assessments.

The sessions of Programmed Activity for this as a full time post is agreed to include 2.5 sessions of Supporting Programmed Activities (SPAs), enabling the post holders to pursue CPD, management, teaching or research interests. The Trust has generous study leave provisions (of 10 days and £1750 per Consultant Psychiatrist per annum) in addition to a weekly educational programme, internal CPD, RCPsych Peer Groups and Trust training. Assistance with relocation is available in certain circumstances. The on-call rota is 1:21 and has been revised so as to only include inpatient/NHS on-call commitments (and not s12(2) MHA 1983 assessments either in the community or as s136 MHA 1983 assessments). Part time appointees will attract a proportionate share of the above and all posts will be subject to regular job planning review.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register (General Adult Psychiatry) or a trainee within 6 months of completing their CCT. Section 12 (2) MHA 1983 approval and Approved Clinician status are also essential to the role.
