Employer:
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust
Department:
Nursing
Location:
Various across Somerset, Various across Somerset
Salary:
£8,092 per annum

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, for up to 38 new colleagues to join us as Adult or Mental Health Nursing Degree Apprentices. Learners will be employed by Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and will be studying a Nursing Degree.

This programme will be delivered at University Centre Somerset – Taunton Campus – who have been recommended for approval by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) for delivery of this programme.

The Nursing Degree Apprenticeship enables people to train to become a graduate Registered Nurse through an apprenticeship route. Nursing Apprentices are released by their employer to study part-time with the higher education institution, and will train across a range of practice placement settings, in addition to their base placement. They are required to achieve the same standards as other traditional student nurses, but with all the usual benefits of being employed whilst doing so.

The successful candidates will be expected to travel to attend University lectures and to attend placements which could cover the entire county of Somerset and possibly beyond. We will be able to discuss this in more detail with you at interview. Placement shifts will require the working of night-shifts, evenings and weekends, alongside Practice Supervisors/Assessors. Enhancements and travel expenses will be paid in line with the usual Trust processes.

In line with this being a developmental training role, the Trust will be offering a wage that is consistent with the National Minimum Wage for apprentices. All course fees for this study will be covered by Somerset NHS Foundation Trust through the Apprenticeship Levy.

Prospective students require a minimum of level 2 functional skills in Maths and English, or a suitable equivalent, and a suitable level 3 qualification (such as A-Levels / BTEC / NVQ etc.) Eligibility checks, and verification of qualifications will be completed by the Trust and University, and all places are conditional and subject to this confirmation.

The role will be physically demanding, and all candidates must be able to complete all required duties in line with this. Please refer to the Supplementary Information in the job description, when the post is advertised, for further guidance on this.
